Although she is not African-American, Miss Universe Zozi Tunzi understands the struggles black people went through and still have to go through for other blacks to be where they are today.
“Happy black history month! I’m not African American but I am a proud black woman and I understand the struggles black people went through and still have to go through for us to be where we are today. I think it is so important for us to understand where we come from because it is through that, that we can know where we are going,” Zozi Tunzi wrote on Sunday via her official Instagram page.
411: Black History Month is an annual observation in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. This month is highly observed by countries such as the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands.
“I also understand that like Marian Wright Edelman said, “we cannot be what we cannot see”, which is why it is important to celebrate black success and excellence. With that, I hope you enjoy every bit of this month and I hope these conversations extend way beyond 29 days,” wrote Zozi Tunzi.
Miss Universe will also be embarking on a homecoming tour taking place from 8-15 February.
“I am finally coming home! The support of my fellow South Africans has been echoing throughout the entire universe since the day that I won. I am so excited to finally get to feel it in person.
“…I am hoping you can do me the honour of coming to welcome the Mouawad crown home. See you there,” wrote Zozi Tunzi.
