The legendary South African music icon Yvonne Chaka Chaka was on Tuesday morning blocked and deported from Uganda ahead of a New Year’s live music concert in Kampala.
The 54-year-old artiste’s live performance at the Buganda Kingdom’s Enkuula Y’Omwaka was reportedly blocked this Tuesday morning by armed security agencies due to having an incorrect visa.
It is further reported by PML Daily, she and her media team were ordered to hand over their cellphones as the armed men demanded to speak to her in private.
The Ugandan Authorities confirmed through their official twitter handle, she indeed was deported and has now been sent back to South Africa because ‘she came on an ordinary visa instead of a working visa” and that they hope she will return soon with the correct paperwork.
According to public reports, Yvonne was allegedly blocked from having the concert due to her fond relationship with the country’s opposition leader- Bobi Wine. PML Daily reports, she once referred to the President’s nemesis as Uganda’s Nelson Mandela, a move that has made her unpopular to the Ugandan authorities.
