Prominent Pastor Dies In Suspected Suicide After Falling From Fourth Floor

Harare lunchtime preacher Bishop Berry Dambaza’s death has left many among his followers shocked after he reportedly committed suicide.

Dambaza is alleged to have driven his car and parked at Parkade along Julius Nyerere Avenue, in Harare, just a street away from his church before he jumped off from the third floor, cracking his head.

Events leading to the suicide were not immediately available as church authorities denied to give full details.

Speaking to Zim Morning Post, a colleague and friend of Dambaza, Trevor Manhanga said reasons for the tragic death would only be known after a full-scale police report.

“If he had problems, they were not known to the church and we are yet to find out. For now, we wait for the family and the police report”

Manhanga further said: “Despite circumstances leading to his death, Dambaza was a dedicated preacher and had proved himself to be a dedicated servant, therefore, the church would accord him a hero’s sendoff.”

It is believed the late bishop was facing serious financial problems and was suffering from post-traumatic stress after the death of his young brother late last month.
Dambaza had become popular for the lunch-hour prayer sessions he used to host at his Rezende Street heard quarters.

His church had become a safe haven for young businesswomen who would set aside lunch hour time to listen and get comfort from his teachings.

One regular lunch-hour congregant said his death had shocked her as she used to consider Dambaza a pillar of strength.
