After a local TV'S epic reporting on prostitution activities by our sisters from the crisis regions in Douala a couple of months ago, proprietors of the Prostitution joints in Bonaberi Douala, have become very HOSTILE, thereby making it difficult for us activists to get closer to the girls like before to convince them to leave the streets and give more meanings to their lives.
Apparently, after that reporting with HARD and HARSH facts by that media house, there was a raid in those joints especially Kwassa Kwassa International, Miami, Jet7, Paolo, Foret Bar etc... Most of our sisters who were doing their night businesses unknown to their relatives were exposed, while others were arrested and later released, thanks to our intervention.

Since then, the sex workers do not want to be identified with people of the press or activists, and this has ruined our hopes of taking more of them out of the streets.
Recently, I almost got beaten up by the proprietor of one of the joints, as I was talking to some girls to go back home so we can get them more meaningful source if living.

Why Can't The Government Just Shut Down All These Prostitution Joints? |
1. Ever since that reporting was broadcasted, the government seemed to have put more eyes on them.
Question: Was the government not aware of the activities happening at night in those places?
2. The girls have relocated to other corners since many identified their sisters and went there severally with the Police to look for them.
3). Finally, these girls are/were the main source of income to proprietors of those joints, who have rooms in their various SEX PARLOURS, where the girls each have rooms that they pay up to 10 0 00F CFA daily. The cheapest rooms are 2000F CFA, and you can imagine how much money someone with just 10 rooms can make a night. Because the girls pay for the whole night, and if you have customers during the day, you pay again.
After that DRAMATIZED reporting which went viral, bad-market has been the order of the day and the proprietors have equally tightened their security to make sure cameramen/women should not have access into their business sites. But they are still operating, under the pretence of bar and dancehalls.
I say DRAMATIZED reporting because MOST of the girls I used to chat with painted a contrary picture of the reporting. To think the reporters claimed some gave quick rushes for a plate of food, left one thinking that victims of the crisis had no value for their bodies, whereas most sex workers in those particular joints had been operating under that norm before victims of the crisis joined them.
Those presently left at the above-mentioned joints, are MOSTLY those who have been there since 19 Abraham and are not ashamed to be seen or identified as SEX WORKERS. I had the opportunity of having a friendly chat with three of them recently, and one proudly told me she makes not less than 5 000F CFA a night and on some blessed nights, she makes 15 000F CFA. I asked if her family knew what she does for a living and she said the most important thing is for her to provide their needs.
One said she was gathering money to travel abroad and give a better life to her four children, while the other said if she had her way, she would STOP like NOW because she is HIV positive.
This particular sister Pamela Fru is the reason I made this post. She is a 35 years old English speaking lady and mother of two. I will put up her story this afternoon because she needs help, and I will be taking her to the hospital this morning.
Who are their customers?
- Married men especially, who claim their wives are not as SMART in bed as the sex workers. Others leave their office and drive straight to where they are, and pay for fun under the moon or the sun.
- Men of God who disguise at night to taste the forbidden fruit.
- Youths with LARGE HEARTS who want to experience what God alone knows
- Uniform men who pretend to be on patrol
- Businessmen who seek temporal pleasure
-Truck pushers, etc...who can pay as the go.
- On bad days, the proprietors to have their shares.
Do The Men Use Condom?
"Most men hate the idea of using condoms, so if they opt for DIRECT and FULL CONTACT, we charge a DOUBLE of the fee," One told Thatcher.

Dear friends, to think that the government says it is fighting prostitution, but yet prostitution joints keep obtaining licenses to expand and operate everyday, makes one wonder if some of those in the high places are not behind what we see everyday.
To think that some of the people in the society with high moral standards, who have the possibilities of reaching out to these girls and give them life-changing opportunities are the same ones encouraging the girls by giving them money in exchange for sex, makes one think man has no fear of God.
To even think that married men would cheat and prefer direct contact with sex workers whose serological status are not known to them, makes one think the world is coming to an end.
Worse of all, to think that Men of God, who are supposed to carry their Bibles to preach Christ to the world, take off the beautiful vestments they use on the pulpit during the day to wear black face caps and rough jean trousers at night to mask themselves and pay for sex, makes one lose hope for a better tomorrow.
Can't the government not BAN the functioning of prostitution joints? Maybe if they do, the intensity of that activity and its after consequences will reduce, and people will try to do more honourable and little jobs to earn a decent living.
