A local NGO has threatened to file a case at the Constitutional Court to plead with the highest court to determine whether Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is still fit to hold office.
Speaking to this reporter on Monday Southern Stars Foundation's Acting Director-General Ndodana Moyo said the Foundation is in consultation with its lawyers towards drafting the documents.
"We have been observing with keen interest on an issue that has been raised by Magwegwe constituency 2018 parliamentary candidate Fortune Mlalazi regarding Vice President Chiwenga," Moyo said. "We are of the view that parliament must heed to the calls to debate the fitness of Chiwenga who has spent a lot of time away from work and is physically unfit to hold office. Section 97 of the Constitution is very clear that a joint sitting of parliament can meet to debate the motion and remove the Vice President.

"We are also aware that the parliamentary process at times does not use logic and law but is bound by the whipping system which may make it difficult for such a motion to be moved or supported by ZANU PF MPs. We are therefore announcing that we are engaging our lawyers to find a way of lodging a case in the Constitutional Court so that the status of Chiwenga may be determined and a ruling secured. We are hopeful we will get a fair judgment on the matter."
Chiwenga was recently flown to China were doctors from Zimbabwe, South Africa, India and China are attending him.
He is suffering from multiple organ failure.
