Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for United Nations Secretary General has indicated the willingness of the organisation to assist Cameroon resolve the current socio-political crisis rocking the two English speaking regions of the country.
He made public the UN’s intention during a press briefing on October 2, 2018.
“The United Nations remains concerned about the security situation in the North West and South West regions,” he declared. He added that the question keeps coming up during daily press briefings in the UN SG’s office.
Responding to a question from the press,the UN Deputy Spokesperson stated that the UN is equally concerned about the impact of the violence on the civilian populations of the two English speaking regions of Cameroon.

Farhan Haq stated unequivocally that the UN remains available and open to all forms of collaboration with the Cameroon government in their efforts at seeking a peaceful solution to the Anglophone crisis which erupted in 2016 and escalated into armed confrontation between separatists and government military.
Civilians, armed militia and soldiers have perished, while both private and public property has been destroyed as well as abductions for ransom been the order of the day since the crisis escalated.
