On Monday night at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé, Jean Nkuete was not only surrounded by the CPDM staff.
The SG of the Central Committee of the party of Paul Biya also had with him three leaders of allied parties including Issa Tchiroma Bakary of the NSFC, the Honorable Bapooh Lipot of the UPC and Jean De Dieu Momo of the PADDEC.
In his role as national secretary for communication of the CPDM, Jacques Fame Ndongo announced to media men who came en masse that it was just a press conference without questions. So it’s the tone and seriousness that Jean Nkuete made his statement.
He first said that the vote took place “throughout the national territory in a calm and transparent”. The CPDM and its allies, he added, “salute voters who have moved massively to freely fulfill their civic duty.”
“While the Cameroonian people calmly await the proclamation of the results by the Constitutional Council, to intervene in 15 days at the latest according to the Electoral Code some candidates hold fiery speeches to proclaim themselves victor and call to the uprising of the population to defend their alleged victory by creating a climate of tension, insecurity and violence in the country, “insurgent Nkuete.
According to him, “such behavior is immaturity and political feverishness. They also reflect a disregard for the rules of the democratic game and institutions that their authors were ambitious to defend by running for the presidential election.
Thus, said Mr. Nkuete, “we express our astonishment, our indignation and our concern at these seditious and groundless irresponsible statements”. He concluded by inviting the Cameroonians to remain calm and to go about their business normally.
