US Diplomat Peter Henry Balerin praises a peaceful post-election period.
“We are asking all parties to wait for the official results to be announced before making statements about the alleged winner, and to peacefully resolve any complaint through established legal channels,” reads the Facebook page of the American Embassy.
The Chancery’s statement clarifies its “neutrality” with regard to current events, even if it implicitly corroborates the position of the Cameroonian government against Maurice Kamto. The results are expected by 22 October.
The National Commission for the Census of Votes has been working since last Tuesday. It gathers the minutes of counting in the communal antennas and departmental agencies of ELECAM.
Only the Constitutional Council presided over by Clement Atangana is authorized to proclaim the results of the poll of 07 October 2018 within a period of 15 days.
