Former Bar Council President and Presidential candidate of the Popular Front for Development (PFD) party, Barrister Akere Tabeng Muna has called on members of the Constitutional Council to rule on electoral transparency so that Cameroonians can effect change through the process.
According to him, when the citizens fail to effect change through the ballot, they would choose other means to bring about change.“Election is the only way Cameroonians can effect change. If it fails, they would choose other means,” Akere Muna warned. Even though he did not specify what he meant by “other means,” he however noted that the country is at the crossroads and its citizens are hungry for change, which to him, should come through election.

While defending the position of candidate Maurice Kamto calling for the cancellation of the election in seven Regions out of the 10, Barrister Akere Muna challenged the members of the Constitutional Council to “contribute to legitimacy and transparency of the electoral process in Cameroon.”
The Lawyer of international reputation wonders why the Constitutional Council would sustain an election, which according to him, was marred by gross irregularities.
Based on this, he prayed the body to annul the elections especially in the Anglophone Regions where he said entire villages have moved out and they are unable to participate in the selection of the next President of Cameroon.
Since its creation months ago, this is the first post-election hearing being heard by the Constitutional Council.
Before now, the job used to be done by the Supreme Court seating in lieu of the Constitutional Council.
