Arsenal failed to sign Mohamed Salah during Arsene Wenger’s time in charge with Liverpool baffled by their reasoning, it has been claimed.
Arsenal and Liverpool were both linked with Salah in the summer of 2017 with the Egypt international destined to leave Roma.
Many expected the Gunners to fight for the forward, particularly at a time where Alexis Sanchez’s future was shrouded in uncertainty.
Liverpool, though, capitalised on their failure to do so by luring Salah to Anfield in a bargain £34million deal.
And the Times say they were shocked by Arsenal's brave decision not to aggressively pursue Salah’s signature.
Liverpool had Salah in their sights for some time.
They were aware that Chelsea, the player’s former club, were not interested in re-signing him.
There was also no eagerness from Manchester United and Manchester City to join a bidding war.

But Wenger supposedly did not sign the 26-year-old because he had been told by analysts that the player was ‘wasteful.’
Arsenal’s loss has been Liverpool’s gain.
Salah blitzed 44 goals across all competitions last term as the club reached a first Champions League final in 11 years.
He has, though, found life tougher at Liverpool this season.
