2018 Presidential Election - Detained Maurice Kamto Official Finally Released

The deputy treasurer of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party has finally been released after specnding a week behind bars, party officials have confirmed.


Okala Ebode was arrested by security forces on October 7 at his Vogt polling station in Yaounde and taken away for protesting against the fact that another person had voted in his place.

He was allegedly taken away and locked up in a police cell in the capital Yaounde and no news on his whereabouts had filtered until Monday evening when he was pictured with the chairman of his party Maurice Kamto.

The Cameroon Renaissance Movement has in several outings condemed his arrest as well as that of several party members describing it as a gross violation of their human rights and freedoms.


The party has equally said many of its supporters are still being illegally detained behind bars since the October 7 Presidential election.
