Opinion leaders, through their stance, would legitimize the deployment of a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cameroon.
According to the revelations of the newspaper Repères published Wednesday, June 6, 2018, negotiations are taking place at this time for deployment of the United Nations peacekeeping force (UN) in Cameroon. And more precisely in the northwestern and southwestern regions, plagued for almost two years in socio-political unrest. A situation promoted by activists eager to impose separatist ideas in Cameroon. The newspaper thus points an accusing finger on Me Akéré Muna, declared candidate for the presidential election of October 2018, and is proof of its recent stay at the United Nations headquarters after having " requested an international fact-finding mission alleged alleged human rights violations by the military, alleged genocide and illusory crimes against humanity ".

According to the bi-weekly, the situation in the North West and South West is not " serious enough to require UN intervention". The announced return of the populations who have taken refuge in neighboring Nigeria is a tangible proof of this. In addition, "the rapid intervention battalion (BIR) does not hesitate, in the area of Akwaya for example, to take care of the affected populations through the administration of free care, the distribution of foodstuffs or the human investment .
According to Repères, the missions assigned to the UN force, namely the monitoring and enforcement of the cease-fire, the disarmament and demobilization of combatants, the protection of civilian populations, the maintenance of order, demining, the protection of refugees and the maintenance of human rights are for the moment well executed by the Cameroonian defense and security forces.
