Ambazonian Separatists Given Heavy Jail Terms

Meanwhile the coffin revolutionist Mancho Bibixy awaits his fate on Wednesday, six of his comrades have received jail terms ranging from 11 to 13 years.

Six Ambazonian activists held in connection with the ongoing unrest in English-speaking Cameroon were sentenced to several years in prison this Tuesday, April 24.

The jail terms ranging from 11 to 13 years were handed down by a military tribunal in Yaounde. Most of the young men had been in detention since 2016 when the Anglophone crisis erupted.

Lobte Jacob will serve 11 years. Baying Eugene and Numfor Godlove each has 12 years behind bars while Nyuyforan Eugene and Wirba Bruno were sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Mancho Bibixy saw his case adjourned for Wednesday, The Guardian Post newspaper has reported.

Before the verdict, rumours had gone round that some of the detainees could face heavier jail terms, which could even amount to death sentences.

Each of the prisoners has to pay a fine of FCFA 148, 280 to the tribunal or face additional nine months behind bars.

Ten days have been given to them to appeal.
According to a new anti-terror law of 2014, terrorism could attract capital punishment.
