After a series of criminal acts in Mamfe and other locations in Manyu Department, suspected secessionist assailants launched assaults in the town of Kumba, chief town of the Meme Department.

The South West Region has become a prime target for radical activists fighting for the independence of South West and North West, the English-speaking regions of Cameroon.

According to concordant sources, armed assailants attacked Kumba defense and security forces on the night of yesterday, Saturday, December 10, 2017.

This morning, I learned that police and military personnel stationed on the Kumba - Tombel road have been attacked by armed secessionists. According to security sources, this clash between attackers and defense and security forces has made a provisional assessment of several wounded and dead in the ranks of terrorists. Our sources indicate that there are also five wounded in the ranks of men in uniform.

This is the second attack on the Southwest Region defense and security forces in four days.
