Cameroon: Francophonie Secretary General pledges to help rebuild National Assembly

Michaëlle Jean, Secretary General of La Francophonie has pledged to help rebuild Cameroon’s National Assembly, which was ravaged by fire last week.


She made the statement November 18, 2017 through her Twitter handle.

In the statement, the Francophonie boss said the international organisation was measuring the “effects” of the disaster for the country’s public administration. “The technical team of La Francophonie, and all its member states will make themselves available for the reconstruction efforts to be undertaken”, part of the statement read.

It should be recalled that last week fire incident had gutted down four floors of the building. In a statement released on November 17, Victor Yene Ossomba, Secretary-General of Cameroon’s National Assembly, revealed that “the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh floors of the office of the First Vice-President of the National Assembly, Honorable Etong Hilarion, the office of the Vice-President, Kombo Gberi, the office of the SDF parliamentary group President, that of the first deputy secretary-general, as well as the services of the General Administration, and those of Budget, were all consumed in the flames.

Only the accounting agency, the joint technical services department, the documentary information department, the legislative and linguistic affairs department, the questors department and the hemicycle have been spared.
