The Africa Cup of Nations tournament does not happen until 2019, but it has been making all the headlines in recent times for the right reasons; Cameroon and CAF have engaged in a war of words with the formal defending itself from the attacks of the latter.
After the declarations of CAF’s President, Ahmad Ahmad, putting to doubt Cameroon’s ability to host the new format of the AFCON, the Confederations Vice President also recently accused Cameroon of deliberately delaying CAF’s evaluation mission to the country. Cameroon has persistently asserted it stands of being able to host the tournament in 2019, and its preparing to received CAF’s first evaluation commission on August 20ths 2017 lead by an Egyptian from the Price Waterhouse Corporation.
The six-man Commissions will visit the sites chosen to host the competition including stadia, hotels, and road infrastructures. This is just a first evaluation exercise and Cameroon will not worry too much about the visit even though the country has been warned to sit-up, for CAF is gradually losing patience with their slap-happy attitude towards an event as big as the AFCON.
It is worth noting that CAF has officially handed to Cameroon their new requirement comprising of six stadiums of 15000, 20000, and 40000 capacities, 12 training pitches, and a host of other demands that could see the country spend over 700 billion CFAF to fulfill its obligations.
