Me Francis Sama, the former president of the Bar Association, invites lawyers to stop the strike. He made this declaration during the ceremony of the solemn oath to call seven new English-speaking lawyers to the Cameroon BAR that took place last Friday and the NW Court of Appeal, Bamenda to make this appeal to his comrades.
On June 9, 2017, Mr. Francis Sama, the former president of the Bar Association of Cameroon, asked lawyers to halt the ongoing current anglophone lawyers strike. It was on June 9, 2017 during the formal oath taking of seven new English-speaking lawyers.
He cited the recent presidential decrees on the postings, promotions and appointments of magistrates, the former BAR President said that “these acts of the Head of State constitute an early demonstration of good faith of the Government to effectively implement and put in place the promises made with respect to the claims of English-speaking lawyers “.
The latter added “for the first time in the legal history of Cameroon, a common law judge is appointed president of the judicial section of the Supreme Court”. The decrees of the Head of State translate according to Me Francis Sama the will to respond to the demands of the English-speaking lawyers who are currently on strike. For him, these are good gestures should spur anglophone lawyers to stop the current strike action associated with the anglophone crisis.
I noted this good faith of the Government and I invite my comrades lawyers of the common law to also demonstrate a beginning of good faith to encourage the Government … I note that the lawyers for some time come to the Tribunals secretly or even To work with casual dresses. I encourage them to come as I do. That is to say in formal and official dresses .
The former president, who has shone through his silence since the beginning of the anglophone crisis, knows that his point of view will not be accepted by everyone. He therefore congratulated the Minister of Justice (Minjustice) for the work done in the redeployment of the magistrates.
However, what he expects is “the organization of the exams at the end of the internship so that the 1400 lawyers trainees that he registered at the bar knows their fate because they have finished their internship for more than 6 months”.
