Premier League target Khama Billiat has cheated death after being held hostage by six gun-wielding robbers.
The Zimbabwe international striker – thought to be the highest-paid player in the South African Premiership – has attracted interest from Swansea, Burnley and Newcastle.
Currently South Africa’s Footballer of the Year, Mamelodi Sundowns star Billiat helped his unfancied country reach the African Nations Cup finals earlier this year.
But the 26-year-old underwent a terrifying ordeal when held hostage at a Johannesburg petrol station last week.
The six thugs, brandishing AK-47 assault rifles, forced the player to withdraw cash from an ATM and stole his wallet and watch before letting him go.
Sundowns spokesman Thulani Thuswa said: “I spoke to Billiat, and he said he was lucky to escape with his life.
