Anglophone Crisis - Roman Catholic Priest, 40 Others Arrested In Jakiri

Soldiers deployed from Bafoussam to Jakiri in Bui Division reportedly clashed with the local population on Saturday the 11th of February.

The so-called law enforcement officials arrested a Roman Catholic priest and 40 other people. The situation continues to be tense in the home constituency of popular SDF MP, Joseph Wirba.

We can now confirm that a building hosting an academic establishment that participated during the Youth Day celebrations was completed burnt down. Our source in Jakiri revealed that one person was killed and many others wounded when troops from La Republique du Cameroun opened fire. Those arrested, including the Parish priest of Jakiri were moved to an unknown destination.

According to our cream of reporters covering the Anglophone crisis, there is no indication that schools will resumed in Southern Cameroons despite the Biya Francophone government’s constant calls for pupils and students to return to class. “The situation remains very tense. The interim leaders of the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium have made it abundantly clear to the regime in Yaoundé that, it is the question of unconditionally releasing all Southern Cameroon detainees and for the people of British Southern Cameroons to organize a referendum to determine if they wish to continue in a one and indivisible Cameroun or not.

The Consortium has also pointed out that any discussion with the Biya Francophone regime will be based on a single agenda with the detained leaders on the negotiating table. CIR
