Social Democratic Front, SDF electoral district chairman for Limbe, Godden Zama Ndenge was Tuesday picked out of his Limbe Down Beach residence by heavily armed unidentified state security hit-squad.
One of his aides who confirmed the arrest to The Cameroon Journal, said,Ndenge was about taking breakfast when the security elements stormed his house and arrested him at about 8:00.
It is still unclear why and at whose behest the political leader was arrested. His exact whereabouts remain unknown though yesterday, a Limbe basedreporter hinted The Cameroon Journal that Ndenge might have been transferred to Yaounde where other recently arrested Anglophone activists are being detained.
Before his arrest Tuesday, The Cameroon Journal gathered, Ndenge had been hunted by police in Limbe since government began a merciless crackdown on some prominent Anglophone leaders.
The SDF Chieftain has severally been arrested in the past in Limbe for standing up against injustice and non-respect of the rule of law.
On February 3, 2016, he was arrested and detained at the Limbe central police station for fronting a protest against what he described as the “wanton” demolition of houses in the seaside resort town.
The tough-talking Ndenge was arrested in the Cassava Farmsneighbourhood by security forces, as he staged the peaceful protest against the demolition of houses by the Limbe City Council which started February 3.
Ndenge, it should be said, has been very outspoken and tough on several issues of national interest including the Anglophone problem.
His arrest last Tuesday brings to five, the number of prominent Anglophones so far arrested since government began a crackdown after the proscription of the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium, and the Southern Cameroon National Council, SCNC.
