BREAKING NEWS: Six children die during baptism

Six children died during a baptism ceremony led by a self-styled prophetess in Sadza, Mashonaland East province early Monday morning.


The children died in Mutorahuku stream in Muriwo Village under Chief Neshangwe at around 5am.

The six, two boys and four girls, have been identified as Tafadzwa Dzvuke (5), Tinotenda Dzuke (3), Shamiso Pfumbidza (4), Patience Pfumbidza (9), Blessed Muvadi (12 months) and Emmanuel Dzvuke (7).

Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident saying two suspects—Maud Dzvuke (30) and Jane Ruvinga (34) had been arrested in connection with the case.

She said the two women took nine children for the baptism ceremony in Mutorahuku stream.

“During the baptism, one of the juveniles aged four years ran away from the stream and met one Tony Kondo (17) who noticed that she was shivering due to coldness,” she said.
