Despite calls from human rights activists, Nicki Minaj performed in Angola at a holiday concert hosted by Unitel, a company controlled by the country’s dictator, José Eduardo dos Santos.
According to reports, she received $2 million for the performance. “The payment you are receiving from your Angolan sponsors is the result of government corruption and human-rights violations,” Thor Halvorssen, president of the Human Rights Foundation (the group calling for Minaj to cancel the concert), wrote in a letter to Minaj last week.
Minaj never addressed or responded to the open letter. Following her concert, she shared this photo on Instagram:
