Sundowns started the better of the two sides and dominated possession for most of the opening exchanges.
However, it was Chiefs who had the first chance of the half, as Siphiwe Tshabalala picked out Kingston Nkhatha, who failed to trouble Kennedy Mweene from close range.
That proved to be the best chance of the half and Stuart Baxter's side started to see more of the ball as the half drew to a close, with Tshabalala proving to be their liveliest player.
Sundowns, meanwhile, failed to take advantage of their early dominance and were restricted to shooting from distance due to the good work from the Chiefs' defence.
It was Sundowns who took the lead 10 minutes after the halftime break thanks to fine curling effort from Teko Modise.
The was a much higher tempo the game following the opening goal and Baxter's men started stamping their authority on the game in the hope of getting the equaliser.
Cuthbert Malajila should have doubled the lead minutes after the opener but the striker blasted over with only Brilliant Khuzwayo to beat.
Chiefs pushed for the equaliser and were rewarded in the 67th minute, as George Lebese drilled home from 12-yards out after some good build-up play from the home side.
Neither side could break the deadlock in the closing stages, as Chiefs maintained their unbeaten run, while Sundowns recorded their fourth successive draw in the league.
Here's how they line up:
