LEGENDARY Zimbabwean footballer Madinda “Khathazile” Ndlovu added another honour to his career when he was crowned the Be-Mobile Premier League Coach of the Year in Botswana on Wednesday night. The award comes hard on the heels of another personal award in which he was voted the number one coach of the Mascom Top Eight before leading Township Rollers to the Be-Mobile League title, his third successive title with two different clubs.
Before joining Popa, as Township Rollers are popularly known in Botswana, the Highlanders and national team legend had led his then paymasters, Mochudi Centre Chiefs, to two straight championships.
“Our stars once again shine at the Be-Mobile Premier League Awards ceremony just like the Mascom Top 8 Award ceremony,” posted the club on its official Facebook site.
Ndlovu’s first choice goalkeeper Mwampule Suleman Masule bagged a double by winning the Supporters Player of the Season award and the Player of the Season award.
The 2013/14 season proved to be a memorable one for the Ndlovu brothers, arguably the best talent from the same family to emerge in Zimbabwe, together with the late Adam “Adamski” Ndlovu as younger brother Peter also collected a league winners’ medal with crack South African side Mamelodi Sundowns.
Peter, another Highlanders and Zimbabwe legend, was the Pitso Mosimane coached side’s manager.
Another of the family’s siblings, Brian who is the last born, won promotion with Coventry City in the UK.
The three Ndlovus were joined by former AmaZulu defender Costa Nhamoinesu who lifted the league title with his Czech Republic side Sparta Praha to book their place into the prestigious Uefa Champions League in which Norman Mapeza, Noel Kaseke and Benjani Mwaruwari are among the few Zimbabweans known to have played at that level.
