Sundowns Speak on Mahachi
MAMELODI Sundowns have finally put to rest speculation regarding Warriors attacking midfielder Kudakwashe Mahachi after confirming that the speedy left linkman is their player and has been loaned to Bulawayo giants Highlanders.

Local media has been awash with speculation on Mahachi until after he scored when the Warriors beat Malawi 4-1 in a friendly match in Blantyre last Wednesday.

In their official website after the match against the Flames, the Brazilians confirmed that the nimble-footed midfielder now belongs to the Absa Premier Soccer League side.

“Mamelodi Sundowns-bound striker and Zimbabwean international netted a brace for his country when they defeated Malawi in a friendly international.

“The 2013 Chan star, is currently on loan from The Brazilians to Zimbabwean giants Highlanders, in spite of reports that the player is struggling to find a home. In fact, the player has made a handful of appearances for the team also known as Bosso,’ reads the website.

Mahachi had been linked to a move to Dynamos, but he settled for Highlanders, saying it was the club that he grew up in and wanted to pay tribute to its followers by leaving Bosso in a respectable position to win the league before going to South Africa.

He signed for the first half of the season for Bosso and is due to join fellow Zimbabweans Esrom Nyandoro, Khama Billiat and Cuthbert Malajila at Sundowns after a two-year loan spell with Chicken Inn that ended on December 31. Mahachi has played in all Highlanders’ pre-season matches, the Bob 90 Super Cup semi-final against Harare City, the friendly match against FC Platinum and the CG Msipa charity tournament semi-final.

Meanwhile, the Highlanders senior team clash with the Bosso juniors at Luveve Stadium this afternoon as the club seeks to identify juniors who will be promoted this season and next year. Head coach Kelvin Kaindu confirmed the match yesterday.

“We are going to have a practice match tomorrow (today). The aim of the practice match is that we want to identify junior players who can be recommended to the first team for this year and next year. We want to come up with a plan so that we monitor them and come up with a programme to support them.

“We also want to see how the juniors will fare against the main team,” he said.

According to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League rules, clubs register 30 players with five of the slots reserved for the juniors.

Kaindu said they wer yet to announce their squad for the 2014 season.

In the past, Bosso produced players like Obadiah Tarumbwa, Honour Gombami, Johannes Ngodzo and Mkhuphali Masuku.

Mahachi, Gabriel Nyoni, Zephaniah Ngodzo, Ozias Zibande, Charles Sibanda, Joel “Josta” Ngodzo, Bobby Nkomo and Knox Mutizwa are some of Highlanders juniors products.

Some of the juniors who could feature for the Bosso juniors today are Prince Phiri, Alois Karidza, Keith Phiri and Tafadzwa Sinyoro. – Southern Eye
